CBC Member Stations report on the Church Survey 2005

CBC members Premier Christian Radio (AM in London & satellite/Freeview nationally) and Cross Rhythms City Radio (FM in Stoke-on-Trent & satellite nationally) recently broadcast interviews with the Rev Jonathan Willans, chairman of the Ecumenical Research Committee, concerning their recent report, Church Survey 2005 – "Let the people speak", which concerns the state of the Christian church in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Another CBC member Tim Finch of Omni Christian Media provided television coverage of the report.

The full report makes interesting reading for all those interested in the state of the Christian church. In his forward to the report Lord Bromley states that, "this investigation reveals that there are multitudes of people…who are calling on churches of all denominations to defend moral vales and cease being silent in the face of the moral collapse of society".

Respondents to the survey identified five things they want church leaders to do:

Communicate the evidence for Christianity to the nation.
Remind people that God is holy and not just loving.
Provide more reverent church services.
Challenge the immorality of the nation rather than remain silent.
Provide greater pastoral care
The main theme of the report, that was high lighted in the interviews, was that churches in other countries focus on these areas and they see increased attendance.
